Getting Started With Periodic

This guide will help you set up your first Marketplace and unique booking system.

We’ll start with the basics because there are literally thousands of settings (and you don’t need all of them to get started).

STEP 1 – Log In to your Marketplace

The Marketplace is the top level of a Periodic account. When you login to a Marketplace you are instantly taken to the Dashboard, which is only visible to you and the Staff users you invite to help manage the account. If you created the account, you’re automatically the Marketplace Admin, which means you have full access to every feature.

STEP 2 – Create a Provider

Providers are entities that offer Bookable services and are often different business locations, departments or rooms that have unique booking needs. For example, if you were configuring for a car dealership, each Provider would be a dealership location.

To create a Provider:

  • Select Configuration from the menu at the top of the Dashboard, then click on Providers. Hit the bold, green CREATE button.
  • Give your Provider a name, subdomain and timezone. You can return later to configure other, more complex settings.
  • Save the Provider and, when prompted, make your booking site active.
  • Back on the main Provider page, you should now see your new Provider! Select the purple “Visit Site” link next to the Provider name and you’ll be directed to the Booking Site your customers will use to schedule reservations. Your Booking Site will say “Sorry, this site has no active Bookables” until Bookables are added.
  • Remember, the Provider is not what a Customer books (that’s a Bookable). A Provider merely hosts Bookable(s).

STEP 3 – Create A Bookable

Bookables are the services that Providers make available for booking. Customers make Reservations on a Provider’s Bookables. If your Providers are dealership locations, then the various reservation types Book a Test Drive! or Meet with Our Team! would be the Bookables.

To create a Bookable:

  1. Select Configuration from the menu at the top of the Dashboard, then click on Bookables.
  2. Hit the bold, green CREATE button.
  3. The only requirements in creating a Bookable are the name, affiliated Provider, and Availability. Choose the Availability Mode according to your needs (Regular Availability is the most popular). There are additional options to create more complex rules and restrictions for the Bookable, but we won’t mess with those for now. See
  4. Save the Bookable and create any other Bookables you may need.

STEP 4 – Create And Add A Resource

Resources are optional. They are the people or things that can be associated with a Bookable. The Availability of Resources can be configured to affect the Availability of the Bookable so that a specific resource must be available in order for the customer to book a service.
Re-visiting the car dealership example..
Let’s say a Customer would like to book a time with Jerry of the sales team. The Bookable would be Meet with Sales! and the Resource would be Jerry.

To create a Resource:

  1. Select Configuration from the menu at the top of the Dashboard, then click on Resources.
  2. Hit the bold, green CREATE button.
  3. The only requirements for a Resource is a name and associated Provider. There are additional options to connect an external Google or Outlook calendar, set availability or configure additional settings.
  4. Save the Resource and add it accordingly within the Bookable(s) of your choice.
